Physiography : The newly formed state of Uttaranchal is bounded by UP on the south, Nepal on the east, Himachal Pradesh on the west and China on the north east. The proposed state will have 12 districts ,11 of them situated in the hills and only Udham Singh Nagar in the plains.



Economy & Tourism Uttaranchal may only have 17 per cent of Uttar Pradesh in geographical area but it is the golden goose in terms of tourism and forest product. Holy shrines like Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, and resorts like Nainital and Mussorie attracts 83 million tourists in a year. Haridwar and its Kumbha melas earn Rs. 1,500 crore revenue annually from tourism. Six of the seven national parks of former UP are now under Uttarakhand. Annual earnings from the forest products are Rs. 135 crore. The rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Sharada generate resources for hydroelectric power to the tune of 1000 MW.

Politics: Uttaranchal will have an assembly with the strength of 60 members. Present provisional assembly has only 31 seats. Uttaranchal can send 5 members to Lok Sabha and 3 members to Rajya Sabha. Party position of the present provisional assembly is as follows.
